Namibia tour day 3

Up at 5.45am so that we can have an early start to this morning's safari. Quick breakfast, pack bags and tents and off we go. Soon we stop very near to a group of Impala. Delicate animals and so tasty for lions (if they can catch one).

A bit further on and half a dozen Wildebeest are making their way through trees and bushes, maybe heading for a water-hole.

A Zebra and her foal have become separated from the herd.

A little further on, we see a large herd, hopefully theirs and soon to be re-united.

A lone Jackal lies behind a stone - not much shade here. Maybe he's got his eye on that foal.

Further on, a Black Rhino presents his best side

Then helpfully turns a little to keep an eye on us.

But it's too hot to think about charging the tour-bus so he wanders off.

Now here are a pair of mongooses playing by the roadside. George tells us that these cute animals can kill a snake.

Another Black Rhino in the distance.

A Giraffe eyes us suspiciously while Oryx graze unconcerned.

We drive to the edge of the great salt pan. It is 120k long, is part of the Kalahari basin and can be seen from space. It is deserted except for some silly tourists.

There is a small shallow pond of water. It has elephant tracks through it!

Back in the bush,we stop for lunch at Halali Camp before resuming our safari.  A bunch of Ostriches run away from the noise of our bus. I don't blame them
.
Above us a weaver birds nest. These sociable birds fly up into holes in the bottom of the nest, inside which is a highly organised community, raising their young in one large family.

We set up camp at Okajuya Camp in the Park. Dinner is beef, perfectly cooked.

Here I am at sunset in my best holiday shirt.
We sit and gaze at the water-hole for several hours but only some jackals come to drink before I retire alone to our camp-site. More Jackals are sniffing around our tents looking for food. I chase them away, careful not to get too close, they have rabies here. Now I am ready to sleep. Goodnight.
